Rio Ferdinand Anticipates Manchester United’s Relegation Struggle As He Makes Somber Forecast For Season

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United could go winless for the rest of the season, but still wants Ruben Amorim to remain.

Since the Portuguese coach took over for Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils have had a terrible run of results. Sunday’s defeat to Spurs, their 12th league loss of the season, leaves them in 15th place, just two points above the relegation zone.

Attempting to forecast the rest of the season, ex-United player Ferdinand feels Amorim’s team may conclude the season without another win. He believes there is one game they will not lose, an away match against struggling Leicester next month.

He stated, “Manchester United are definitely battling at the moment. Only Wolves and West Ham separate my club from the relegation zone. Do you realise we are so close?

“Someone stated we needed 11 points simply to remain up, and I am starting to believe that. I have the fixture list here, and I’m looking at the game. I’m serious. Go through it.

“Everton away, Ipswich at home, Arsenal, Forest, Manchester City, Newcastle away, Wolves, Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Leicester.

“The only place I can see us gaining anything – and I don’t mean a win – is Leicester. “We’ve already slapped up Leicester a couple of times this season, so we have their number,” Ferdinand continued. “When you look at the fixture list, you can tell where the points are coming from.

“We just looked at the fixture schedule and I’m not seeing outright wins, therefore I’m not looking at it thinking there’s three points here and there’s three points there. That’s the problem.”

And, while Ferdinand is skeptical that United will pick up many points the rest of the season, he feels the club should stick with current manager Amorim. When asked on Twitter if he believes Amorim should be fired, he said, “No – coach stays!”
