Rio Ferdinand Mends Relationship With Arsenal Star Following Tragic ‘He Can’t Run’ Blast

Rio Ferdinand has extended an olive branch to Jorginho after previously questioning the Arsenal player’s jogging.

Jorginho, an Italian international, was still with Chelsea when Ferdinand targeted him in 2019. “He gets no assists, he’s not a great defender, once a game gets like this against the big teams he gets overrun in midfield and he can’t run,” the former England player commented.

Jorginho seems to take the comments to heart, recalling Ferdinand’s words after being voted UEFA Men’s Player of the Year. He received the trophy in 2021 after helping Italy win the Euros following Chelsea’s Champions League victory.

The former Napoli player moved across London in January 2023, joining Arsenal from Chelsea, and signed a new contract with the club in May of this year. He could face Ferdinand’s previous club Manchester United on Wednesday, and the pundit has been considering his options.

Ferdinand apologized to Jorginho after interviewing him for his ‘Rio Ferdinand Presents’ podcast. “I’d like to reiterate here with you to your face, is that nothing’s ever personal,” Jorginho heard him say. “I look at things from a tactical perspective and what may be the problem and what could be the solution.”

The Arsenal player answered kindly, stating, “Yeah, because it cannot be personal. We don’t know each other, and I entirely understand.

When asked how statements like Ferdinand’s can be received in the dressing room, he replied: “It always has an impact, especially with social media now, since they often take things out of context and simply eliminate that bit. “It has an impact.”
