Rob Holding believes he is well-suited to Arsenal’s new 3-4-2-1 system, after impressing in five of the last seven fixtures.
Arsene Wenger switched to a three-man defence following a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in April, which compounded a horrendous run of form for the Gunners.
Since that change, Holding has tasted victory in all five of his appearances, including a 4-1 victory against Stoke City on Saturday evening.
That goal conceded was via a handball from Peter Crouch, with new fan favourite Holding again performing well, to the adulation of the travelling support at bet365 Stadium.
Against Stoke, Holding made a team-high 10 defensive actions, showing strong positioning to cover for Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny.
As reported by Arsenal’s official website, the 21-year-old said of that extra protection: “I enjoy it, getting on the ball a bit more and you have a bit more safety with the other two there.
“It plays into the way that I play because I like to be on the ball and move it forward. It’s been going well so hopefully it continues.
“[Crouch] got that goal and their fans got a bit louder, so we showed a bit of character to stay in the game when they had seven corners in a row. We just had to withstand it and then score more goals on the break to polish it off.”
