On Wednesday, Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski was given the European Golden Shoe for the second year in a row.
Each season, the top scorer in the European leagues receive the European Golden Shoe award.
In the 2021–22 German Bundesliga season, Lewandowski—now a striker for Barcelona—scored 35 goals for his former team, Bayern Munich, to win this prestigious prize a second time.

Lewandowski thanked his old squad and teammates for this achievement as he accepted his award from former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol.
“Thank you very much, I’m very proud. I’m very happy, because I know how hard I had to work for this.
“Also, I want to say thank you for my ex-team mates, also to my former team and FC Barcelona,” he said after accepting the award.

The 34-year-old, who will play for Poland in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, emphasized that Brazil and Argentina are favorites and it will be a difficult tournament.
Former Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), is still the record holder with six European Golden Shoe awards.
The prestigious award was first given to Portuguese football legend Eusebio da Silva Ferreira – largely known as Eusebio – in the 1967-68 season as he scored 42 goals for Benfica.
