Marcelo has been hailed as the best left back in the world by Real Madrid ambassador Roberto Carlos.
Roberto Carlos spent 11 seasons with the current Champions League holders and established himself as a true legend at the club as he won four La Liga titles and lifted Europe’s top competition on three seperate occasions.
His replacement upon leaving the Santiago Bernabeu in 2007 was his Brazilian compatriot, who has been with Los Blancos since joining from Fluminense for just £5.5m and has already won three La Liga titles, the Champions League twice as well as two Copa del Reys.
Carlos lauded Marcelo at an Mahou sponsorship event, as reported by The Sun:“Together with Cafu, I invented a different way of attacking in football.
“Today Brazil has Marcelo and Filipe [Luis], Marcelo is the best in the world, making football more real, but that is not to disparage Filipe. I hope Marcelo is not better than me, but he is doing very well.
Carlos played four matches for Delhi Dynamos this year but has hung up his boots for the time being yet again in order to focus on his role with Real.
Meanwhile Marcelo remains an important part of the Madrid side and hasn’t missed a minute of league football since making his return from a spell on the sidelines in late September. He has scored one goal and has recorded two assists in nine La Liga appearances this season.
The Brazilian is expected to feature for Real when they travel to Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday.
