Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino is reportedly on the verge of signing a new contract with the Merseyside giants.
The 31-year-current old’s contract at Anfield expires in six months, making him available to begin pre-contract discussions with foreign clubs.
If Firmino’s contract situation does not change between now and the end of the season, the Brazil international will leave the club for nothing in the summer.
Despite his struggles to stay fit over the last two seasons, Firmino remains an important part of Jurgen Klopp’s setup, and the Liverpool manager has been vocal in his desire to keep the attacker.
Earlier on Wednesday, Firmino’s agent, Roger Wittman, revealed that the former Hoffenheim man was in positive talks with Liverpool about a new contract, though nothing had been signed yet.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Firmino is getting closer to signing a new contract with Liverpool and is set to sign a two-year extension until the summer of 2025.
Firmino’s proposed new contract would keep him at Anfield until just before his 34th birthday, extending his stay on Merseyside to nearly a decade since his arrival in 2015.

The South American has 107 goals and 78 assists in 348 appearances for Liverpool over the last seven and a half years, including nine goals and four assists in 21 games this season.
Firmino has won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, and Community Shield during his time at Anfield.
The striker has not played for Liverpool since before the World Cup due to a calf injury that has kept him out of the Reds’ last nine games in all competitions.
