Rodgers calls for calm in bid for Europe

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is refusing to get carried away despite his side’s fine start to the season. The Foxes sit third in the Premier League table after Saturday’s 2-1 win over Burnley, although they will drop to fourth if Arsenal win at Sheffield United on Monday night.
Former Liverpool and Celtic boss Rodgers feels there is much more to come from his side but doesn’t want to put too much pressure on his players, who he says should just be “focusing on ourselves and looking to keep improving and climbing” in these early stages of the season.
The Northern Irishman says his long-term goal with the King Power Stadium club is to guide them into a European tournament but warned it may not happen this season. “Let’s wait until we get through the season with 10 games to go and then see where we are,” he said. “At this time it is just about improving and developing and working very hard – and the players are doing that.”
He added: “In my time here my objective is to qualify for European football but in the area of the division that we want to qualify in and be around there are some outstanding teams.”
Leicester have managed 17 points from their opening nine games of the season and have managed five wins.
The Foxes have been beaten twice but those losses came at Liverpool and Manchester United and if they can maintain their current form they look well-placed to secure a top-six finish, if not the top four.
Leicester have a tricky run of fixtures ahead of them as they face back-to-back away games at Southampton and Crystal Palace, with an EFL Cup trip to Burton in-between, before the visit of European qualification rivals Arsenal on November 9.
