Skysports pundit, Paul Merson has advised Chelsea to appoint immediate past Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers as their head coach. The Northern-Irish was fired by the Foxes on Sunday after he failed to lead the club to victory against Crystal Palace. And the defeat led to Leicester languishing in the relegation zone.
So, Merson thinks the former Celtic and Liverpool manager has many of the qualities needed to steady the Stamford Bridge ship. Despite the fact that his image has taken a beating this season.
He said: ‘I would like to see Brendan Rodgers in at Chelsea. I’m a big Brendan Rodgers fan.
‘Unfortunately, things have gone horribly wrong at Leicester. In football it all comes down to timing. And let’s be honest, if Leicester were where Brighton are now, everyone would be calling for Rodgers to go to Chelsea.

‘Rodgers ticks every box; he plays on the front foot. He started his coaching career at Chelsea and knows the club. Chelsea fans will question why they should turn to a manager who has just been sacked by Leicester.
‘But if you look at the all-round picture, Rodgers is a good manager who has worked at top clubs like Liverpool and Celtic. He has won trophies at Leicester and put them on the brink of Champions League qualification. I just think Rodgers is the one,’ Merson concluded as claimed by Metro.
However, most Chelsea fans will question Merson’s thoughts. And considering the fact that he (Rodgers) started the season poorly with Leicester City. And the club is on the verge of relegating to the championship. So, it questions his mentality in managing a big side. Which is kind of synonymous with their recently sacked manager, Graham Potter.
