Roma Axe De Rossi After Just Four Matches Into Serie A Season

Roma have reportedly sacked Daniele De Rossi after just four games into the 2024-25 Serie A season.

The Giallorossi are presently 16th in the league after three draws and one loss after the club’s challenging start to the current campaign.

De Rossi was named Jose Mourinho’s replacement in January, after the renowned Portuguese manager’s contract was terminated after two and half years in charge,

De Rossi’s early success in the dugout amazed the club’s hierarchy, who then extended an offer to him to take over the position permanently when he led the team to a sixth-place league finish and the Europa League semifinals.

Three months after De Rossi’s contract was signed, the Italian capital club unexpectedly decided to fire him because they are yet to win a game this season.

According to Daily Mail, while announcing the decision to sack the Italy international, Roma stated: “The club’s decision is made in the best interests of the team, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible at a time when the season is still in its early stages.

“A heartfelt thank you to Daniele, who will always be at home at the Giallorossi club, for the work he has done in recent months with passion and dedication.

“Communication regarding the team’s technical guidance will follow,” the statement concluded.

De Rossi’s final game in command, a 1-1 draw with Genoa on Sunday, ended with the Italian being sent to the stands for dissent.

The 41-year-old, who had managed 30 games and an average points-per-match ratio of 1.7, was fired by Roma, so he will never get the opportunity to serve his punishment.
