Ronaldo fails to score in four Real Madrid home games for the first time

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has gone four successive games at the Bernabeu without scoring for the first time in his distinguished career.

However that didn’t prevent his side from taking all three points against Athletic Club on Sunday, as they won the match 2-1. Goals from Karim Benzema and substitute Alvaro Morata were enough to make Los Blancos the outright leaders of La Liga, following Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 loss to Sevilla.

Ronaldo missed the start of the campaign due to the injury he sustained in the Euro 2016 final, and has managed two goals, both away from home, in six league appearances since his return.

In comparison, fellow world-beater Lionel Messi has netted seven times in as many games in La Liga this season.

Despite Barcelona scoring freely though, they’ve been far from flawless in other areas of the pitch, and as a result are two points off Madrid with 19.

Ronaldo, who recently scored his 42nd career hat-trick for Portugal in a 6-0 thrashing of Andorra, is a figure with too much diligence and skill to be kept from the limelight, so is likely to pop up with a handful of goals sooner rather than later.

The 31-year-old is known for being the ultimate critic of his own work, and will now undoubtedly be reminding his teammates of his need to start making a tangible impression.
