Rooney Ruthlessly Slams Man United Players, Names One Star Who Shouldn’t Be Sold

Wayne Rooney tears into Manchester United players by claiming it could take up to 15 years to return back to football peak. He went on to say only one senior player should not be sold.

Wednesday night’s 3-2 victory over Newcastle United at home by the Red Devils was met with harsh criticism from the United legend.

The former Old Trafford hero said that Marcus Rashford and other players should be the targets of a “massive clear-out” during the summer transfer window.

This week, Fernandes, 29, was linked to a move to Bayern Munich. However, Cristiano Ronaldo would prefer that the Portuguese midfielder join him at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

According to The Mirror, unlike his feelings for most of the current crop of players in the team, which can only place seventh in the Premier League this season, Rooney wants Fernandes to stay.

What Did Rooney Say About Man United Players?

“You have to build the team around Bruno,” the ex-England captain declared on Sky Sports post-match. “He’s quality and has got fight in him, and then I think all the other players, get rid of them.”

Astonished by Rooney’s assertion, Sky host Dave Jones questioned the 38-year-old for more details.

“I think you keep the young players, and you keep Bruno,” Rooney clarified. “I think it has to be a massive clear out. It has to be. It’s not going to be in one year, but I think it’s going to be in the next couple of years.

Jones provided some names for discussion, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, and goalkeeper Andre Onana.

“I think he (Onana) has had a shaky start but has got better and better over the year,” Rooney replied. “For me, Dalot’s done well, Maguire has had an in and out season. To compete in this league they need better players.

“Don’t get me wrong these players are good players. But to compete with Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal, they need better players.”
