Wayne Rooney’s agent has flown to China to speak to clubs trying to sign the England captain from Manchester United.
Paul Stretford is holding talks with Chinese Super League clubs who want to sign Rooney before their window closes on Tuesday.
Guangzhou Evergrande, Beijing Guoan, Jiangsu Suning and Tianjin Quanjian are the interested clubs.
Tianjin manager Fabio Cannavaro says they made an approach to sign Rooney but they have not made a bid.
United’s all-time record goalscorer has 18 months left on his contract with an option to extend the deal by a year.
Sky Sports understand that it’s unlikely that Rooney will move to China before Tuesday.
Rooney has started only three games in the last two months. He has not played since the start of the month because of a muscle injury.
The 31-year-old returned to training on Tuesday but missed United’s Europa League win over St Etienne, which saw goal scorer Henrik Mkhitaryan and Michael Carrick pick up injuries.
Both players are unlikely to play in the EFL Cup Final on Sunday while Rooney has a chance of being fit for the clash with Southampton at Wembley.
On Tuesday Mourinho said he could not guarantee that Rooney would be at United for the rest of the season.
