Out of contract ex-Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky is set to be out for three-to-six weeks through injury, meaning that his involvement with the Czech Republic at Euro 2016 is over.
The 35-year-old will leave Arsenal when his contract expires at the end of the month, but he remains one of his country’s key players and provided a fine assist for Tomas Necid yesterday, as the Czechs came from behind to draw 2-2 with Croatia.
Although he looked rather off the pace in the Czech Republic’s opening group stage fixture with Spain, Rosicky was significantly more impressive in the second half against Croatia, but picked up a thigh problem that’s set to curtail his involvement in the tournament.
He will play no further part in France, so the Czech Republic will have to cope without him in their final group stage fixture against Turkey on Tuesday.
Pavel Vrba’s side are currently third in Group D having taken just one point from their two fixtures so far, although they’re still in contention to reach the last 16.
Rosicky, who has an average pass accuracy of 67% at Euro 2016, has endured much misfortune with injuries throughout his career, and was restricted to just one first-team appearance for Arsenal in his final campaign at the club.
It remains to be seen where he will be playing his club football next season, but his hopes of securing a quick move elsewhere may well be hampered by this latest setback.
