Roy Keane: Guardiola not Mourinho is the real Special One

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is the ‘special one’ – not Jose Mourinho, according to former Manchester United captain Roy Keane.

Both managers, who were friends as young players and coaches coming through the game, have since turned into fierce enemies on the touchline from their days in charge of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

They both moved to the Premier League in the summer – Guardiola doing so for the first time in his career – with Mourinho taking charge at Old Trafford and the former joining rivals City.

It was Guardiola who got the upper-hand in their first meeting of the season last week in the Manchester derby, as the ex-Bayern Munich boss saw his players turn on the style at Old Trafford during a 2-1 win.

Mourinho was the self-proclaimed ‘special one’ when he moved to England to join Chelsea back in 2004, but Keane believes it is Guardiola who now owns the name tag.

“He said he’s a challenging coach – doesn’t look like he messes about,” Keane told ITV.

“I wouldn’t like to mess with him.

“Two coaches in Manchester. Mourinho reckons he’s the special one, to me this guy is.

“We’ve seen City have good stats before and they take their foot off the gas a little bit, but I don’t think it will happen under this guy.”

Manchester City’s win at Old Trafford week meant Guardiola’s now lead the Premier League table by two points, ahead of the game with Bournemouth this weekend at the Etihad.
