Roy Keane has made a bizarre assertion about Real Madrid, mistakenly implying that Arsenal’s 3-0 thrashing earlier this week was not that noteworthy.
Arsenal against Real Madrid was perhaps the best quarter-final match in the Champions League. The Gunners hosted the first leg on Tuesday night, and despite missing several key players, including Gabriel Magalhaes and strikers Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal delivered a performance to remember.
Real Madrid were out-thought and out-fought on the night, with Bukayo Saka proving unstoppable on the right side. Declan Rice stole the show with a couple of superb free kicks, but Mikel Merino’s first-time finish for the third goal should not be overlooked.

The fact that Real Madrid are the defending winners of the UCL, and the majority of players who played on Tuesday also won the league with Real in 2022, makes the victory even more stunning.
Despite Real Madrid’s European pedigree, wealth of world-class stars, and the fact that they signed Kylian Mbappe last summer, analyst Roy Keane said they are a “poor team.”
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Keane said any anxieties about Real Madrid overcoming their three-goal lead at the Bernabeu are absolutely unwarranted.
In his opinion, the current Real Madrid team is a poor copy of what came before, and the quarter-final match has already ended. Reported By Teamtalk.
“The game is over, Arsenal are 3-0 up and worried – relax,” he remarked (as reported by the Evening Standard).
“This isn’t the best Real Madrid team. They won’t even win the league this year; this is a weak Real Madrid club.”
It’s true that Real Madrid isn’t having the season they expect. Carlo Ancelotti’s team behind Barcelona by four points in LaLiga and had already suffered defeat in four Champions League games this season before Arsenal made it five.
