After Erik ten Hag was fired last month, former Red Devils striker van Nistelrooy took over as temporary manager. During his tenure, he guided the team to three victories and a tie.
He finished his brief term with a decisive 3-0 victory over Leicester on Sunday, and he had earlier expressed his wish to remain at Old Trafford even though he was not given any information on his future.
However, as he gets ready for his debut against Ipswich on November 24, Amorim chose to stay with his own staff after arriving in Manchester rather than retain the Dutchman, reports Daily Mail.
Van Nistelrooy has finally spoken up in a sincere statement sent to X, stating that he will “cherish the memories” of his tenure as the club’s manager.
He said: ‘To everyone at Manchester United Football Club, in particular the backroom staff, the players and the fans. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible efforts and support.
‘It has been a privilege and honour to represent the club as a player, coach and manager, and I will always cherish the memories we have shared together.
‘Man United will always have a special place in my heart, and I hope there are many more glory days at Old Trafford very soon – not only because I want the club to do well, but because you all deserve it!
