United reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon for the 39-year-old’s services and he will begin work on Monday, November 11.
The international break will allow Amorim to rest at OId Trafford before his November 24 away debut against Ipswich Town.
Van Nistelrooy will continue to serve as temporary manager for this weekend’s match against Chelsea, Thursday’s Europa League match against PAOK and next weekend’s top division match against Leicester City, reports Manchester Evening News.
Before Sunday’s Premier League matchup against Chelsea, Van Nistelrooy was questioned if he will remain with Amorim, he said;
“We will see but it’s a contract situation I am in and my desire to help the club forward.
I can speak to you about my side of the story and after that when a new situation is occurring and when a new manager is signing and conversations take place we have to see how things develop.”
“I want to help. I want to do everything I can in my abilities as many others do in this club, to fight for this club.
The club’s in a difficult situation and it’s not there where we all want it to be. But the challenge is there for the bigger, that’s why I’m here.
