Summer signing Sadio Mane has been named Liverpool‘s player of the month for August after enjoying a superb start to his spell at the club.
The Senegal international, who arrived from Southampton in a high-profile move, hit the ground running as he scored a superb goal on his debut against Arsenal before impressing against Burton Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.
Mane won the award at a canter as he received 77 per cent of the total votes, with Philippe Coutinho, who finished in second place, receiving 11 per cent of the votes.
As reported by the club’s official website, Mane said: “It means a lot. I have been working every day – every day in training and in the games – to give my best for the team.
“We have a great team with many qualities. Now we have to work to make the fans happy. We’re going to take it game by game and try to win as many as we can.
“I want to thank everybody for this, especially the fans who voted for me, and I am very happy to win it.
“But it deserves to go to the whole team because without them, I would be nothing, so I want to thank them. We will try to give our best for the fans and to win games for them.”
Possessing pace and flair, Mane is capable of causing all manner of problems for opponents and kept the ball rather well during August as he registered an average pass accuracy of 76% in the Premier League.
Mane also showed that he is capable of beating defenders with ease, as demonstrated by the fact that he was successful with 63% of his attempted take-ons in the Premier League last month.
