Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe has acknowledged that he is uncertain as to whether Allan Saint-Maximin will be fit before the end of the season.
The winger, who has missed the last four games due to a hamstring injury, recently traveled back to his home France for medical attention.
Saint-Maximin was expected to play some part in Sunday’s 6-1 triumph over Tottenham.
He didn’t feature in that match though. And he missed Thursday’s 4-1 victory at Everton as well.
Even if Howe maintains there has been no setback. He acknowledges there is no assurance the 26-year-old will be available for the next six games of the season.
‘He won’t be available for Sunday (at home to Southampton),’ said Howe as claimed by Daily Mail. ‘Maybe the game after that (Arsenal, May 7), but there’s no guarantee at this moment.
‘I certainly hope he’ll be fit before the end of the season, but with hamstring injuries, there’s always that element of doubt.
‘He’s not had a setback, he just needs to build his fitness levels up and make sure he’s fully fit before he comes back.’

Saint-Maximin may have played his final match for the club if he is unable to prove his fitness. However any offers are likely to be taken into consideration should they arise.
Prior to a busy summer in which Newcastle are almost certainly going to be assembling a squad for the Champions League. His sale would increase the transfer funds.
