Leeds United have confirmed Sam Allardyce as their new manager until the end of the season.
With Leeds’ season in peril, they have turned to the seasoned manager, who has in the past pulled Sunderland, Crystal Palace, and Everton—three Premier League clubs—away from being relegated with stunning rescue feats.
With only four games remaining in Leeds’s season, the 68-year-old, who briefly served as England’s national team manager in 2016, has his hands full with this current task.
According to reports, Allardyce will get a £2.5 million bonus if Leeds retain their Premier League status.
Karl Robinson, a former Oxford United manager who worked with Allardyce at Blackburn Rovers, will be his assistant.
Leeds also stated that Gracia’s assistants Zigor Aranalde, Mikel Antia, and Juan Solla have left the club in the statement announcing the hiring.
The statement as reported by Yorkshire Post read“We thank Javi and his team for their efforts under difficult circumstances.”
Allardyce’s first game in charge comes against champions Manchester City on Saturday. Followed by a home game against Newcastle United, one of Allardyce’s old teams, who are vying for a Champions League spot.
On May 21, Leeds will play their penultimate and final away game of the season against another of Allardyce’s former teams, West Ham, before visiting Spurs seven days later.
In his nearly three-decade-long managerial career, Allardyce has managed 12 club teams in England, including Leeds.
