Alexis Sanchez hailed Arsenal‘s “strong” mentality following their 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday, as he scored a vital brace.
The Gunners have made an excellent start to the season off the back of their disappointing 4-3 defeat to Liverpool on the opening weekend, remaining unbeaten in the Premier League since that painful afternoon in August. However they’ve lost ground on the teams around them in recent weeks, drawing their last two fixtures 1-1.
Meanwhile Bournemouth arrived at the Emirates in good spirits, as they registered their first win in three last weekend against Stoke City, ending a run of back-to-back defeats. Eddie Howe’s men had a tough start on Sunday though, with Sanchez giving Arsenal the lead after 12 minutes from a calm finish.
Callum Wilson equalised from the penalty spot 11 minutes later, but the Cherries squandered two fantastic chances soon after through Adam Smith and Brad Smith. Theo Walcott restored the Gunners’ lead early in the second period, before Sanchez rounded the game off in injury-time, with the latter hailing their resolve this term.
“Thank you so much,” the 27-year-old told the media (via the club’s official website) after being named Man of the Match. “I’m so happy for the two goals, but the team’s mentality is strong.
“The Premier League is very difficult but we continue, it’s more difficult for me, for the team. It’s the number one [league with the likes of] Chelsea, City… it’s the Premier League and I like it!”
Sanchez has scored eight goals and created 30 chances in 13 Premier League appearances this season, with a shot accuracy of 59%, as Arsenal sit fourth on 28 points, three behind leaders Chelsea.
Next up for them is a home clash with Southampton in the EFL Cup quarter- finals on Wednesday, before taking on West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday.
