Rio Ferdinand has ruled out the possibility of Alexis Sanchez staying at Arsenal beyond the summer.
The Gunners suffered a humbling 3-1 loss to top-four rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday evening to leave their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League in doubt.
Arsene Wenger made the controversial decision to omit Sanchez from his starting line-up amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Chile international’s future at The Emirates.
Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane scored first-half goals to put Liverpool in control of the Premier League clash after a poor showing from Arsenal in the opening 45 minutes.
It was hardly surprising to see Sanchez stripped and ready to come on as a half-time substitute and the South American wasted no time teeing up Danny Welbeck to halve the deficit.
However, Arsenal failed to conjure an equaliser as Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum scored a late goal on the break.
Speaking to BT Sport about Sanchez’s future at Arsenal, ex-Manchester United defender Ferdinand said:
“He won’t be an Arsenal player next season. A player with ego and pride won’t be accepting that [being on the bench].”
