ARSENAL narrowly missed the golden chance to sign Uruguayan genius Luis Suarez last season when boss Arsene Wenger made what Liverpool owners described as derisory 40 million and one pound offer. But this season with Suarez off to Barca, the Gunners pipped the Reds to the precious signature of former Barca forward Alexis Sanchez.
The Chile forward is almost single-handedly powering Arsenal’s season and his brace in the routine 3-0 victory against Stoke City Sunday afternoon took his season tally to 17 goals in all competitions.
Like Suarez did for Liverpool last season, Sanchez is Gunners top marksman and top assist. There is no doubt Arsenal’s season would have imploded without the talented Chilean who spurned the chance to move to Anfield for the glamour of North London.
Sanchez, in my opinion, is the best summer import to the English top flight this season and has been the most influntial player in the BPL as we crossed the halfway mark. Harry Kane (Spurs), Saido Berahino (West Brom), Charlie Austin (QPR) and David De Gea (Man Utd) have been very crucial to their respective clubs too. But none of them has come close to Sanchez’s single-handed drag of the Gunners.
His speed, strength, guile and skills remind one of Suarez even if not exactly at the imperious Uruguayan level. And Wenger has wasted no time in drawing comparisons with his new acquisition against the one who got away. Many players come to England and struggle in their first season, but not Sanchez. In fact, on the evidence of his first half-season, he looks destined to quickly eclipse Suarez impressive record in England.
Call him a poor man’s Luis Suarez today. But he is a poor man’s Suarez without the Uruguayan’s catalogue of unwanted baggages. What do you think guys, could Gunners new weapon be BPL’s new Suarez?
