Alexis Sanchez has had his house seized as part of Spanish authorities ongoing investigation into alleged tax avoidance in football, according to reports in Spain.
El Mundo Deportivo claims that the Spanish Treasury had taken possession of Sanchez’s home in Barcelona with prosecutors in the city having previously alleged that he had defrauded the government out of £827,000.
It is claimed that he used a shell company in Malta called Numidia to divert his earnings on image rights, therefore failing to pay the appropriate level of tax.
Last month Sanchez’s agent denied the claims, saying in a statement: “Alexis Sanchez has perfectly obeyed every one of the laws imposed by the countries where he has resided.
“We ask the press and public at large for the upmost respect until the completion of the ongoing administrative and judicial process.”
The tax affairs of several leading footballers in Spain have come under the microscope in recent years, with Sanchez’s former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi and his father Jorge receiving a 21-month prison sentence for failing to pay £1.7million owed to tax authorities.
