Saudi Pro League Could Cost Liverpool Two More Key Players.

According to Four Four Two, Two of Jurgen Klopp’s key center backs are being pursued by Saudi Pro League teams, so Liverpool may be in for a fight in the January transfer window.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is the most recent member of the Reds’ backline to miss time due to a knee injury. The team is already dealing with multiple injuries to this position.

Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, and Kostas Tsimikas have all struggled with personal issues; in recent weeks, young players Conor Bradley and Jareel Quansah have filled in admirably.

The Premier League leaders may have been eyeing defensive reinforcements during the January transfer window, but journalist Ben Jacobs reports that the club may actually be receiving offers for defensive duo Joel Matip and Joe Gomez from Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq.

Speaking to CaughtOffisde, Jacobs stated, “Ettifaq are exploring a range of ambitious options both in January and this summer to bolster Gerrard’s squad.”

“Steven Gerrard was part of a three-hour recruitment meeting on Monday where Liverpool’s Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, and Villa’s Bertrand Traore, were also discussed for summer 2024.”

During a busy holiday schedule, Gomez has started four of Liverpool’s last five games. The Englishman’s versatility has been essential in filling in several gaps in Klopp’s injury-plagued backline. Matip, on the other hand, suffered an ACL injury in December and will likely be out for a while.

The 32-year-old’s contract is scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign, but Klopp has indicated that the team may offer the Cameroonian a new contract to help during his extensive rehabilitation.

“I’m pretty sure the club will show their class. We have to make a decision with Joel with how things look after that,’ the German said, speaking back in December. “I would say so [there is a chance of a new deal] but it’s not my decision.”

Fabinho, Roberto Firmino, and Jordan Henderson were the three Liverpool players who left for Saudi Arabia during the summer.

However, Henderson is rumored to be dissatisfied at Al Ettifaq and ready to write off millions of pounds in order to leave Saudi Arabia early and rejoin the Premier League.
