Atletico Madrid could face a fight to keep hold of Saul Niguez in the January transfer window as Manchester United have been linked with a move. The Old Trafford outfit are planning to bring in a few reinforcements in the winter window after a lacklustre start to the campaign, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side 12th in the Premier League table ahead of the visit of pacesetters Liverpool on Sunday.
United have been linked with Saul in the past and now reports in England claim the Manchester outfit are prepared to firm up their interest in the winter window by making a concrete bid, with the Premier League giants ready to move for up to six targets as they look to salvage their campaign.
Los Colchoneros will be keen to keep hold of the 24-year-old, who is also a reported target for Barcelona, and they are under no pressure to sell as he is under contract until 2026 after signing a nine-year deal two years ago.
It is understood the Spain international has a mammoth €150million release clause and United may have to get close to that figure, if not match it, to facilitate a transfer.
United were linked with Saul during the summer when it appeared Paul Pogba would depart. If the Atleti man does make the move to Old Trafford, it could spell the end of the Frenchman’s spell in Manchester, with Real Madrid still keen to snare the World Cup winner.
