Scaloni Provides Mac Allister Injury Update As Slot Left Sweating

Argentina head coach, Lionel Scaloni has reportedly revealed that Alexis Mac Allister is training alone ahead of Thursday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Venezuela.

Despite suffering an injury during Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, where he was substituted out at halftime by Arne Slot because he was “in slight discomfort” with a groin problem, the Liverpool midfielder has joined his national team.

After the match, the Dutchman said that he was unsure if the 25-year-old would play for the World Cup and Copa America champions this week. However, the player dismissed his concerns, saying in an Instagram post that there was “nothing that will stop him.”

But before tomorrow’s match, Scaloni has since given a worrying update on Mac Allister’s fitness.

“Alexis is training differently,” he began in his pre-match press conference, as per TyC Sports. “Let’s see if he is ready for the first game.

“For now he has not been able to train with us and we will make the decision if he is part of the squad or the bench, but today it is difficult for him. I think we have to take care of him. He is a boy who comes with a lot of games and today the situation is like this.”

Indeed, Mac Allister has already had a significant impact for Liverpool this season, starting nine of the Reds’ ten games in all competitions.

Unfortunately for Slot, Scaloni prioritizes the former Brighton player’s eligibility for Argentina since he is equally vital to his nation as he is to his club.
