Schar upbeat on Magpies progress

Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar says he is upbeat on the club’s survival chances and feels they could have more quality this season than they did last. Having parted company with Rafael Benitez over the summer, Newcastle turned to Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce to fill the void left by the Spaniard.
The Magpies currently sit just one place and a point above the relegation zone in the Premier League after what has been a pretty mixed start to the season.
Newcastle have actually fared better when they have face supposed stronger opposition, with the Toon beating both Tottenham and Manchester United this season.
Schar knows his the Toon have been far from perfect in the early stages of the campaign but feels the side are moving in the right direction and have real quality in their team after the summer arrivals. “It’s been a mixed start to the season but we’ve had a difficult start against five of the big sides in the first 10 games,” Schar told Sky Sports News. “We know how difficult the league is and that we have to score more goals. “But we will improve. We know how good we can be and all we can do is look forward day by day. I’m positive in the quality and belief in the team, we perhaps have more quality than last year.”
Newcastle will be looking to pull further away from the relegation zone on Saturday when they make the trip to the London Stadium to face West Ham.
The Hammers have a four-point advantage over the Magpies ahead of their meeting this weekend in the Premier League.
Saturday’s game represents a run of matches that Newcastle will fancy their chances of taking something for as they face both Bournemouth and Aston Villa after their trip to West Ham.
That run ends with reigning champions Manchester City making the trip to St James’ Park on November 30.
