Schelotto determined to get back into Seagulls team

Brighton defender Ezequiel Schelotto says he is ready to win his place back in the side after recovering from a knee injury. The right-back was signed by former boss Chris Hughton at the start of the 2017-18 season upon their promotion to the Premier League.
However, he could never force his way into the side in place of the experienced Bruno and was generally left on the bench for most of their games.
He played just 20 times in his debut season and did not figure at all for the south-coast club in his second season having been relegated to third choice right-back following the acquisition of Martin Montoya.
He was then loaned out to Serie A basement side Chievo but only played four times for the club before suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury in March.
However, seven months on from that blow, he has returned to training as he looks to force his way into Graham Potter’s plans for the rest of the season.
And, the 30-year-old admits it was tough to not be able to play but says he is now determined to grasp his lifeline at the club.
He said, “I am very happy to be back involved with the side, it was a difficult few months, but now my sole focus is on playing and getting back into the team. “For me, it’s about waiting for my opportunity. The style of play we have this season gives me more freedom to take advantage of space further up field, and I’m looking forward to showing what I can do.”
Schelotto arrived at Brighton with some pedigree but was unable to establish himself as a Premier League player.
Despite being born in Buenos Aires, he was eligible to play for Italy and earned his only cap for the Azzurri in 2012 when he played in a 2-1 friendly loss to England.
He will hope to earn a recall to Potter’s squad soon though Saturday’s clash at home to Everton may come too soon.
Brighton are currently 16th with nine points from nine games after last Saturday’s late heartbreak to Aston Villa in a 2-1 loss.
