Kasper Schmeichel is reportedly Manchester United’s top target if David De Gea leaves Old Trafford at the end of the season.
The Denmark international signed a five-year contract with Leicester City last summer following the Foxes’ remarkable Premier League triumph.
However, according to Sky Sports, Schmeichel is now attracting interest from both Manchester United and City – two teams the goalkeeper would struggle to turn down if a lucrative offer was made.
The aforementioned report also claims that the 30-year-old recently became a client of Italian agent Luca Bascherini, who has a very good working relationship with the Red Devils.
With De Gea, 26, widely expected to depart Old Trafford during the upcoming summer transfer window to join Real Madrid, United have been linked with a number of goalkeepers in recent months.
While a signing in the ilk of Atletico’s Jan Oblak or Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris would likely ensure that the Spaniard is not missed in Manchester, there would certainly be doubts over Schmeichel’s suitability.
However, when compared using a per-90 metric, there are reasons for encouragement as the Danish shot stopper boasts a better saves per goal rate in the Premier League this season despite facing more shots than De Gea.
