Schmeichel urges Leicester to kick on

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has played down their positive start and insists it will count for little if they don’t kick on. Many had tipped Leicester to challenge for European football this season before a ball had been kicked and their early-season form suggests they are well on track.
They head into Friday’s game with Southampton third in the table, two points shy of second-placed Manchester City, and eager to build on that solid platform.

Brendan Rodgers’ arrival in February sparked a major upturn in performances and Leicester have lost just five times with the Northern Irishman at the helm.
Despite losing a key figure in the shape of Harry Maguire over the summer they have continued to churn out results and are heavily fancied to add another three points to their tally at St Mary’s.
Southampton sit 17th in the Premier League after failing to win any of their last four league encounters and they haven’t triumphed on home soil at all this season.
But Schmeichel, who was part of Leicester’s Premier League title-winning squad, says they can’t allow any complacency to slip in.
The Denmark international admitted to feeling disappointed at the defeats to Manchester United and Liverpool and claims that is a reminder that their current form is meaningless if they don’t sustain it.
Schmeichel told the club’s official website: “I think we’re reasonably happy, there are elements of disappointment with some results, particularly the [Manchester] United result away, and obviously, the Liverpool game at the end was disappointing. “I think it’s a decent start, but that’s all it is at the moment, it’s a start. It’s not going to count for anything unless we keep kicking on.”
Leicester picked up two victories over Southampton last season, having met on three occasions, as goals from Demarai Gray and Maguire sealed a 2-1 win at St Mary’s in the league.
