Schneiderlin admits Man Utd played unattractive football under Van Gaal

New Everton signing Morgan Schneiderlin has launched a thinly-veiled criticism of Louis Van Gaal, with the midfielder admitting that Manchester United played unattractive football under the Dutchman last season.

Van Gaal was accused of betraying United’s traditions by overseeing his side playing slow, tedious football at times last season and Schneiderlin echoed those sentiments.

As reported by the Daily Express, Schneiderlin said: “I went there with big ambition and I wanted to do the best for the football club, but I don’t think I arrived at the best time in Manchester United’s history.

“It is true that last year we didn’t always play very good football, it wasn’t very attractive and there was a lot of criticism around the team.

“From my point of view I didn’t have the run of games that I was expecting, I didn’t enjoy it as I wanted to. I didn’t fall out of love with football, but of course when you don’t play it is a different game.

“Happiness is the most important thing in life and hopefully I will find that here and now.”

Having endured a frustrating spell at United, especially in the first half of this season when he barely featured following the appointment of Jose Mourinho as manager, Schneiderlin will be eager to feature prominently for Everton.

The Frenchman completed his move to Everton for an initial fee of £20 million and could make his debut for his new club in Sunday’s game at home to Manchester City.

An excellent distributor of the ball, Schneiderlin has been successful with 87% of his attempted passes in the Premier League this season, while he is also hugely effective at breaking up play.
