Scholes Advises Man United Players To ‘Keep The Ball Away From Flop’

Paul Scholes reportedly told Manchester United players to keepthe ball away from Andre Onana prior to the Red Devils’ Europa League victory over Lyon.

After ten-man Lyon took a two-goal lead in extra time to make it 4-2 on the evening and 6-4 on aggregate, the Red Devils were only minutes away from an almost certain elimination from the competition.

But in a spectacular comeback, Man Utd secured their spot in the Europa League semi-finals by scoring three goals in seven minutes through Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Harry Maguire.

Onana was brought back into the starting lineup after Ruben Amorim benched him for the Red Devils’ 4-1 loss to Newcastle, although he still garnered attention for the team after conceding four goals against the French opposition.

United legend, Scholes told the Red Devils to try to avoid handing Onana the ball because the goalkeeper was responsible for both of Lyon’s goals in the first match.

According to Football 365, prior to the game, Scholes evaluated the Red Devils’ chances of defeating Lyon and advised the players to heed his advice. He said: “Keep the ball away from him.

“Honestly, don’t even pass it back to him… get the ball up to (Rasmus) Hojlund.”

Fellow Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand added on Onana: “I liked playing with keepers who I don’t want to see or hear much. I don’t want to worry about them.

“The thing is when confidence goes you need to play games and no one talk about you. You don’t want the spotlight on you in games.”

Man United will be hoping to get a result in the Premier League as they host an in-form Wolves side at Old Trafford on Sunday.
