Paul Scholes revealed that he has “no doubt” Manchester United will finish in the Premier League‘s top four this season.
Following a tough start to his reign at Old Trafford, culminating in a 4-0 defeat at Chelsea back in October, Jose Mourinho has since overseen a fantastic run of form, with United unbeaten in their last 16 Premier League games.
However despite that run, their place in the top four is far from assured at this stage of the season.
The Red Devils are competing with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in the upper echelons of the table, each staking their claim for a place in next season’s Champions League. However Scholes is still backing his former club to reach the top four by the end of the campaign.
“It’s been a massive improvement from what we’ve seen in the last couple of years,” the pundit told the Daily Mail.
“The first two or three months weren’t great but they’ve turned it around. There’s a way of playing that the fans are enjoying.
“The only problem is they’re still sixth, which after being in such good form is a bit of a worry. But I watch them now and have no doubt they’ll finish in the top four. They’re playing the best out of the top six with Chelsea and you have to fancy them to finish second or third. Probably third if I had to nail it down.”
United have scored 38 goals and conceded 21 in their 25 Premier League fixtures this season, with a shot accuracy of 49%, as they sit sixth on 48 points, two behind the top four.
Next up for them is a home clash with Saint-Etienne in the Europa League this evening, before taking on Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup fifth round at Ewood Park.
