Schweinsteiger and Gomez make the cut as Germany confirm provisional Euro 2016 squad

Germany manager Joachim Low has confirmed his provisional 27-man squad for the upcoming friendlies and European Championships.

The Nationalelf are looking to build on their fantastic success at the 2014 World Cup, but they will certainly have to dig in deep with a whole host of talent set to take part on the big stage at the Euros.

Unlike many of the nations participating in France this summer, Germany will only take part in two friendlies before the tournament starts instead of the usual three.

Low’s side take on Slovakia at the end of the month, before they face Hungary roughly a week before the tournament gets underway.

Low has named a whole host of big names during his announcement in Berlin on Tuesday, with Mesut Ozil, Emre Can, Marco Reus, Mats Hummels, Manuel Neuer and Shkodran Mustafi among those included.

The man who scored the winning goal in Brazil two years ago, Mario Gotze, is also included despite a lack of game time this season with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Turkish Super Lig champion and top goalscorer for this season, Mario Gomez, is included and will be looking to recreate his former glory on the international scene.

Young Bundesliga stars Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sane are also included in Low’s squad, while Manchester United and national team captain Bastian Schweinsteiger is in despite a recent serious knee injury.

Germany are in Group C with Ukraine, Northern Ireland and Poland at the Euros, and will get their competition underway on June 12th against Ukraine in Lille.

Germany won seven of their 10 qualifying games for Euro 2016, drawing another two and losing one – that defeat came against the Republic of Ireland.

Low will cut his 27-man squad down to 23 players by May 31st in preparation for the Euros.
