Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastien Haller says he is feeling “very well” while undergoing treatment for a malignant testicular tumour.
The Ivory Coast international was diagnosed with the cancer after feeling ill on the club’s pre-season tour of Switzerland in July.
The 28-year-old is now on the path to recovery and, while he is reasonably hesitant to set a timetable on his return to play, he is encouraged by the rapid progress he has made.
What Has Haller Said On His Recovery?
Haller is likely to be out for ‘several months’ while undergoing chemotherapy, but the 28-year-old has provided a positive update on his status.
When asked how his family reacted to the news, Haller revealed that his mother has struggled to accept his condition.

According to Haller in an interview with ESPN: ‘My wife was in shock, but she could deal with it. But.. my mom.. it wasn’t the same, because mothers are mothers.’
‘I called my brothers and sisters to make sure they will be there for her, so that she wouldn’t feel alone. This is what I have done.’
“I walk every day and check my body. I haven’t lost that much after two weeks. I’m even at the same level as a few months ago. That’s a good sign and I hope it stays that way. I feel very well.”
He has also urged people to learn from his experience and have themselves tested for any tumours.
In order to return to competitive football, he added: “Let’s just say now is not the best time to take that step, because it will take me a few months. The important thing is that I don’t lose too much muscle mass. I have to stay fit and a month before I return on the field I will do some work with the ball again. Now the most important thing is that my body feels good. My first goal is to be back on the field, to play for ‘The Yellow Wall’ and score my first goal. That will be a beautiful and emotional moment.”
