Sergio Ramos more complete than Cannavaro and Franco Baresi – Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti has jumped to the defence of his former player, Sergio Ramos, after his mistake last week for Spain as the Italian believes he is the “complete defender”.

Ramos, who was handed the captain’s armband at Real Madrid last summer, has had a difficult start to the new season for both club and country.

He gave away the penalty which allowed Italy to score and earn a point in World Cup qualifying against Spain last week and it’s not the first the Real Madrid star has given away already this season.

Ancelotti, though, has jumped to the defence of the Spanish defender by calling him a “complete defender”.

“Ramos? He only provides experience, quality, character and trophies… does that seem enough to you?” Ancelotti said to Marca. “You can’t argue about Sergio Ramos. He’s a very complete defender.

“Sergio Ramos has everything: [Fabio] Cannavaro was fantastic in the air, [Franco] Baresi commanded the defence and others for the character they gave the team. Sergio Ramos is the most complete, who ties together the best features.”

Ramos famously scored the biggest goal of Ancelotti’s spell in charge of Real Madrid as the Spanish defender headed in a last-gasp equaliser in the Champions League final in 2014.

The game ended up going into extra-time with three goals coming from Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo as Ancelotti lifted the European Cup for a third time.
