Sergio Ramos reveals he considered joining Manchester United last summer

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has confirmed that he did consider joining Manchester United last summer.

Following a breakdown of contract talks with Los Blancos, the 30-year-old defender was the subject of several transfer bids from the Red Devils last summer.

However, Ramos ended up agreeing a new contract in the Spanish capital after being handed the captain’s armband following Iker Casillas’ departure.

Therefore many people believed that the Spain international just used United’s interest to gain an improved contract, but Real’s No.4 has said that he did indeed consider moving to Old Trafford.

“There was an offer from United,” Ramos told COPE (via Goal). “I considered changing for a while but Real Madrid was always my priority and there were no economic reasons.”

“Did I feel cheated [by Madrid]? No, but I did feel disappointed for a while. There were some troubles that came to an end. I have not heard about [interest from Chelsea]. Many things have always been said.

“Flattery from big clubs is always good as this is because you are doing well, but if the fans and my club want me.”

Ramos has made just 20 appearances in his debut La Liga season as official club captain at Real Madrid with injuries getting the best of him so far.

He has found the net twice for the league’s top scorers, though, while he has won 52% of his overall duels, which include 33 out of 45 successful headed duels.

He has also averaged eight defensive actions per game in the league which is the most at the club, averaging just one more per game than Raphael Varane and Pepe.
