Sergio Ramos Shown Red Card For Wild Kick Out At Opponent

Sergio Ramos will always be the same. During his most recent outing for Mexican team Monterrey, the Real Madrid icon got in trouble for a petulant kick.

In February, the World Cup-winning former Spain international joined his new Liga MX employers. The 38-year-old defender made an immediate impression in Central America, scoring three goals in five games.

However, another red card has been added to Ramos’s collection. During his legendary tenure at Santiago Bernabeu, he was sent off 26 times, including a record-breaking 20 times in La Liga. Experience has indeed not softened him.

That was made evident in the closing moments of Monterrey’s 3-1 victory against Pumas when he threw a wild boot at opponent Guillermo Martinez.

By sharing on social media, Ramos has been able to find the humorous side of his dismissal.

“It was obvious I couldn’t leave this league without a red card.”

Pumas were, however, less than impressed, with head coach Efrain Juarez telling reporters: “Whatever his name, he has to be an example.

“If someone from our country had done that, they’d be out from the 20th minute, not the 90th. That bothers me. We must protect our football. He elbowed a kid who just the day before said he was his idol.”

Ramos, who is used to serving suspensions, will now be banned from playing in Monterrey’s next games.

Although he is only bound by a one-year contract in Mexico, the Madrid legend has the option to extend it if he wishes to play into his 40s like his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo is currently doing.
