Serie A Matches Postponed Following Death Of Pope Francis

Italy’s top-flight soccer league Serie A has postponed all of Monday’s fixtures after it was announced that Pope Francis has passed away.

The Vatican stated in a video statement on Monday that Pope Francis, the first Latin American head of the Roman Catholic Church and a passionate soccer enthusiast, died. He had recovered from a severe case of double pneumonia, but eventually gave up a ghost aged 88.

“Following the passing of His Holiness, Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A can confirm that today’s league games in Serie A and Primavera 1 have been postponed,” the league said in a statement.

In the process, four matches will not be played today and subsequently be scheduled for another date.
The games affected include Torino’s home clash against Udinese, Fiorentina’s visit to Sardegna Arena to play Cagliari, top four hopefuls, Juventus match-up with Parma at the Stadio Ennio Tardini and Genoa’s mouth-watering clash against Lazio.
