Shaw to be eased back in by United after international break

Luke Shaw is close to returning from injury in a big boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United. Reports claim the left-back is a week from returning to full fitness – but Shaw is set to be eased back into action.
He sustained a hamstring injury on August 24 in United’s 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace and that has restricted him to just three games this season.
The ex-Southampton star is set to return to full training next week although not in time to feature before November’s international break.
Given his poor injury record, Solskjaer is reluctant to rush the 24-year-old back too soon and has earmarked the Sheffield United game on November 24 as a likely return date.
United have three games before then and the impressive play of 18-year-old Brandon Williams against Partizan Belgrade and Chelsea has given the boss some breathing space at left-back.
Diogo Dalot and Axel Tuanzebe, who have both started at left-back this term, are currently injured and Ashley Young has started more matches than United staff would have planned for when the season got underway.
Williams’ emergence, and the praise he has been getting from Solskjaer, ought to give Shaw the kickstart he needs to get back to the levels that persuaded United to sign him in 2014.
In five years at the club, the £30million signing has made 75 Premier League appearances and had his best campaign in a red shirt in 2018-19 – winning the club’s player-of-the-month award three times.
That persuaded United to tie him down to a lucrative five-year deal in October 2018 and he finished the season by being voted Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year and Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year
Yet some at the club remain unconvinced and there have been rumours recently about United’s interest in Leicester City’s England international left-back Ben Chilwell.
