Shearer Issues Rashford Disciplinary Claim Following Ten Hag’s Decision To Bench Him

Premier League legend, Alan Shearer has indicated something must have happened following Erik ten Hag’s decision to bench Marcus Rashford in Manchester United’s stalemate against Crystal Palace.

Despite scoring three goals in his past two outings, Rashford was benched for Saturday’s goalless draw at Selhurst Park.

Before the game, Ten Hag had stated that the choice was made because of rotation. Rashford was finally brought on as a substitute on the hour mark as United attempted to score the first goal.

The Red Devils manager dismissed as “crazy” the assertion made by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp that the choice to bench Rashford suggested a disciplinary problem.

Ten Hag’s remarks, made during a pre-game press conference where the Dutchman emphasized how crucial it is for Rashford to continue leading the correct lifestyle, were emphasized by Redknapp.

According to Daily Mail, hosts Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer of the Rest is Football podcast questioned Ten Hag’s choice as well.

“It looks like, reading between the lines, it might be some disciplinary issues because he (Ten Hag) kind of mooted that in his press conference that “Marcus has got to be professional”,’ Lineker said.

Shearer responded:  “Why else would you leave him out?”

“When things have been criticised, and I was one of them, for performances, but then you get your goal last weekend, you get another couple in midweek.

“Why would you actually even contemplate leaving him out? My guess is, and it is a guess, it has to be something different.”
