Shine secures Notts role

Former county seamer Kevin Shine has become Nottinghamshire’s assistant coach after leaving his role with England The 50-year-old, who took over from Troy Cooley at the ECB in 2006, helped England win four Ashes series as well as a World T20 triumph in 2010 as lead fast bowling coach. He was jettisoned after 14 years as part of Ashley Giles’ shake-up and, now set to link up with former England head coach Peter Moores at Notts, felt it was an opening he could not turn down. “When the opportunity came up it was a no-brainer,” Shine said. “I’m looking forward to working with Pete again.” Former Notts seamer Andy Pick will now move to a role “identifying emerging talent for the first team” after working with the club’s bowlers. Shine took 249 first-class wickets during spells with Somerset, Middlesex and Hampshire and kicked off his coaching career with a stint as academy director at Somerset before taking the England job. “With Kevin becoming available, we saw an opportunity to shake things up in a way we believe will help us improve,” said Moores. “His track record is there for all to see in the current crop of international bowlers available to England, and it’s fantastic that we can now tap into that experience at Notts.”
