Slot Issues Injury Update On Key Liverpool Player

Liverpool manager, Arne Slot has reportedly revealed that Cody Gakpo is close to return from injury but won’t be available for Aston Villa clash.

The star forward missed the team’s victory over Wolves over the weekend due to a minor injury he sustained in the 2-2 draw with Everton.

According to The Metro, Slot has confirmed that Gakpo will not be available for the midweek trip to Villa Park, despite some optimism that he would recover from the issue in time.

With Joe Gomez the only other player out due to fitness issues, the Reds are still in quite excellent injury shape.

After recovering from an injury sustained during the disastrous FA Cup trip to Plymouth Argyle, the defender hobbled out of the 1-0 loss due to a hamstring issue.

Slot hasn’t ruled out Gomez for the remainder of the season, but he does say the England international will be sidelined for a few weeks.

“I think both are unavailable for tomorrow,’ Slot told a pre-match press conference on Tuesday morning. ‘Cody is close to being back and Joe will take quite a long time.

“He’s going to be out for numerous weeks because of a hamstring injury.”

Gomez has only made nine Premier League appearances so far this season and missed all of January due to injury.

As Liverpool enter the last stretch of the season, the Reds manager acknowledges that the 27-year-old has found it difficult to cope with yet another injury issue.
