Liverpool Manager, Arne Slot has heaped praises on Cody Gakpo following his brace in the Reds’ 5-1 victory over West Ham United in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
In the 21st minute, an own goal by Jarrell Quansah gave the Hammers the lead. However, the Reds quickly equalized four minutes later through Diogo Jota. After the interval, Jota extended the team’s lead right away.
In the 74th minute, Mohamed Salah increased Liverpool’s lead after Edson Alvarez’s dismissal. In the 90th and 93rd minutes, Cody Gakpo scored two quick fire goals to cap off an incredible display.
According to Football Talk, manager Slot was happy with Jota and Gakpo’s braces during his post-match press conference. The latter, who cleared his own box before bagging his late brace, particularly pleased him.
He said as per Liverpool’s official website: “He scored two really good goals and Cody I think it was 10, 15 or 20 minutes before the end where he cleared the ball in his own 18-yard box and that is also what he brings to our game apart from scoring two.”

Gakpo had an incredible performance, completing 94% of his passes and 100% successful long balls. He looked impressive from the left side of the Reds attack, winning 100% of his take-ons and scoring two of his four attempts.
The 25-year-old has been putting in a lot of effort to get into the Premier League starting lineup. So it will be intriguing to see if he can persuade Slot to give him the starting nod in the upcoming away game against Wolves.
