Arne Slot has watered down claims that Liverpool sent a message by defeating Real Madrid handily, stating that the Reds have a higher aim in mind than just winning in the Champions League league stage.
Goals from Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister secured a 2-0 victory at Anfield on Wednesday.
Liverpool ended an eight-match winless streak with the triumph, their first over the La Liga strongholds in 15 years.
According to Liverpool Echo, even though Slot was happy with his team’s performance, he noted that it would mean more if Liverpool advanced far into the knockout stages against a team that he said has recently been a “pain in the ass” for the Reds.

“I liked a lot what I saw but of course not everything,” he said after the game. “I think we controlled the first half, with creating a few chances, but I also thought we were still a bit sloppy.
“I think it is always good to win a game, and especially a big game like this because you know you face so many quality players.
