Liverpool manager, Arne Slot has revealed that Virgil van Dijk will feature in the Reds’ clash against Southampton while Trent Alexander-Arnold is going to miss the encounter.
After the international break, the Reds will play with a view of maintaining their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League. They take on Southampton, who have only four points from 11 games and have firmly settled to the bottom of the table.
Alexander-Arnold was substituted out of Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa just before half-time. Midway through the first half, the right-back suffered a hamstring injury that prevented him from playing for England during the international break.

Van Dijk, meanwhile, returned to England from his Netherlands assignment sooner than anticipated. The manager of the Dutch national side, Ronald Koeman, claimed that the Liverpool captain had been dealing with “minor complaints.”
Following their match against Southampton, the Reds will play two crucial matches against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League and then Premier League rivals Manchester City.
According to Liverpool World, while Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of the match, Slot stated during his pre-match press conference at the AXA Training Centre that Van Dijk will be fine to play. But the vice-skipper will return to training sooner.
Liverpool boss Slot said: “Virgil is all good. He is training with us today. Trent isn’t training with us yet but we expect him to be back soon.”
Slot went on to say that he wasn’t sure if Alexander-Arnold would be able to play in Wednesday’s match against Los Blancos.
