Solskjaer responds to Keane’s Kane call

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Harry Kane is “one of the best” but played down the chances of a Manchester United move for the England skipper. The Old Trafford boss was responding to comments made by Roy Keane, who urged his former club to “go and get” Kane as “he’d score 30 goals a season”.
United are believed to be keen to land a new striker in the January transfer window but Solskjaer played down the prospect of a swoop for Kane, although he did concede he is a big fan of the Tottenham star and admits his side are lacking an out-and-out goalscorer. “There aren’t many (Robert) Lewandowskis and Harry Kanes. They’re like (Alan) Shearer, (Ruud) Van Nistelrooy – fantastic goalscorers,” said Solskjaer when asked about Keane’s comments. “Ours are different types of players, but I have to say I like someone who can finish half a chance and he does that. He’s one of the best, but he’s a Tottenham player.”
United sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in the summer and also allowed Alexis Sanchez to join the Italian giants on loan, without bringing in any like-for-like replacements.
Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford as he seems certain to depart Turin in the winter window.
Lyon’s Moussa Dembele and Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland, who worked with Solskjaer at Molde in Norway, have also been mooted as potential targets for United ahead of the January window.
United have managed just 10 goals in nine Premier League games this season and Marcus Rashford is their top scorer with four so far, one more than summer signing Daniel James.
