Son Heung Min has cautioned that if inconsistent Tottenham Hotspur hope to advance to the Europa League quarterfinals against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday, they must stop their sloppy starts.
In an explosive 2-2 draw at home against Bournemouth on Sunday, Spurs captain Son’s penalty in the 84th minute saved a point after the team had fallen behind two goals.
After a lackluster performance in Alkmaar last week led to a potentially devastating 1-0 loss in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 match, it gave the team a much-needed little boost.
Spurs’ season depends on their ability to advance in Europe following a challenging winter in which many important players missed extended periods of action.

On Sunday, key players Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Dominic Solanke returned from extended absences, but this is not the first time Tottenham have started poorly.
According to The Independent, Son has emphasized the need to get better for Thursday night.
“Everybody has to look at ourselves. Nobody will help us except on the pitch,” Son said.
“I think those guys who are playing need to take more responsibility as I always say and look, it’s been many, many times we have been sloppy, we start sloppy, get behind and then chase the game. It’s not ideal.
“We have to be very strong and make a step forward. You can’t always stay on the same stairs, you have to try to make a step forward as we move on.”
