Former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has reportedly emerged as a potential replacement for Nathan Jones as Southampton manager.
The Saints confirmed on Sunday morning that they had parted company with Nathan Jones after only three months and 14 games in charge.
The decision was made as a result of Southampton’s 2-1 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, despite leading 1-0 and having a player advantage heading into the final 20 minutes.
Former manager Mauricio Pochettino and ex-Rangers and Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard are among those being linked with the vacant position.
According to The Athletic, Marsch may be the Southampton board’s chosen candidate.
As per the report, Southampton’s owners admired Marsch prior to his arrival at St Mary’s, with the 49-year-old having managed Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig.
Marsch’s tenure at the latter lasted only 21 games, and he was fired from the dugout at Elland Road after winning only 11 of his 37 games in charge.
The Yorkshire Giants decided to change the voice within the first-team squad after going seven games in the top flight without a victory.

If Marsch is offered the job at Southampton, there is no guarantee he will accept due to the time constraints and after managing a direct rival this season.
Nevertheless, it would be an unexpected opportunity for someone who might not be considered for other Premier League positions in the future.
While Southampton’s next match is against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the South Coast club is also scheduled to play Leeds at Elland Road on February 25.
Southampton are currently in last place in the Premier League table with just 15 points after 22 games, four points behind Leeds.
